Innocence of children
I was hit by the cute innocence of children earlier today.
I teach English to some kids in Japan, and 2 of them (twins) are taking their class at the same time.
The girl started singing some song at some point which was sounding like "do you like 3, do you like 2"
I have no idea what that song was, but I took the opportunity to teach them about what "do you like" means.
With some examples, do you like pink? do you like apples?
and they made their own example...
That's when the boy said: "Do you like Oppai?"
I had hard time not to laugh pretty hard there, but that’s when the innocence of children hit me, because his sister answered with "Only baby loves Oppai!"
Oppai is where the food comes from for babies, that’s all she was thinking about. That was funny.... not sure if the boy had the same thoughts though lol.

Sabagebu Event
Today I went to the special Sabagebu event "ゲスかわ☆ガールズ JAPAN TOUR 2015 FINAL".
This was unplanned. My superior at work got sick and had tickets for both of today's events, so he gave them to me.
It's really sad for him that he couldn't go, because this event was fucking awesome.
This event was one of the greatest event I've been to in Japan.
It was my first time going to a special event for animes like these. The Seiyuus of the main characters were there, and performed songs, answered some questions, and read a new scenario live.
The questions led to pretty funny answers, and I think I was able to get like 80% of what was said.
On a side note, sometime I kinda stop thinking and just listen and then suddenly I realize "omg I understand" and at that exact moment, I stop understanding.... it's like, if I notice that I'm understanding, and then start trying to understand "manually" I can't anymore, this is frustrating...
The song were pretty nice, I liked the little effect they put on the big screen, especially during Kayo's song, there was some "magic" effects going out from her staff, looked nice.
But the best part was really the scenario read(acted) live. It was funny, and really showed how these people are pretty damn skilled at this.
The most surprising one was Urara's seiyuu, Ookubo Rumi. her acting skill was so great. loved her so much. I actually got inside there a Kayo fan and got out of there an Urara fan.
Touyama Nao, voicing Kayo, was also pretty nice to see live. She's one of my favourite Seiyuu, but her role in Kayo doesn't really make her shine since she's a relatively silent character, but still liked to see her, and she was pretty damn funny during the talking parts.
It's really hard to explain how awesome this event was, but I'm really glad I could go. I also made a new friend there! During the second show, the guy beside me lent me one of his light sticks, and after the show we talked while going back to the train station... all in Japanese! \o/
Overall super day.

Getting Glasses in Japan
Hello, Here's a little post about something that might interest you. This could be useful information for anyone wanting to live in Japan, or even just visiting, in case something happens to your glasses.
I was pretty nervous about getting new glasses in Japan.
The eye exam was the most stressful part because I though a miscommunication error during that exam could be really bad for my eyes.
I check a little on the internet, and a lot of people gave their own experience, all pretty positive, about getting glasses in Japan. And it was really that easy for me too.
I went to Jins in shinjuku station, because it was the easiest to access for me, and Jins was recommended a lot on other websites. The selection in that shop was a little small, but I think the other Jins should be bigger than this one.
Took me about 20 minutes to decided which frame I wanted, then I went to see them and told them which ones I wanted. They brought me to the eye exam space, and made me do the classic eye exam things immediately. Instead of reading letters you had to tell where the whole in a circle was located, for example think of "c" as a circle, so you would have to say "right", and the circle became smaller and smaller.
There was 0 waiting time, and the exam went smoothly. They also had English speaking staff on place.
I bought the Jins PC lens, which are more expensive (2000 yen per lens). I'll make a review on those soon, after trying them more.
They didn't have my lens on site, so I had to come back about a week later, which was the only small bad point about all this. Beside that everything was super easy, no stress at all, quick and actually pretty cheap.

Hatsumode at Washinomiya Shrine
First, Happy New Year everyone!
Did you all take good resolutions for 2015? Mine is to continue working on the one I had set for myself in 2014...
Today for the first time I did Hatsumode in Japan.
To know more about it, go read the wiki article linked or google it, but I'll give a simple explanation here.
Hatsumode is the first visit of the Shrine of the year. It is usually done in the first 3 days of the year, and is an important japanese tradition.
Most shrines are really crowded at this time of the year, even smaller ones.
I decided to go to Washinomiya shrine (the shrine in Lucky Star) once again, because it's kinda my favourite shrine, and I love Washinomiya, plus they had a special even with Lucky Star goods and cosplay.
I guess most cosplay was on the night of the 31, as I saw some on the first, but not many. Even without the cosplay, I still enjoyed this event a lot. The was a lot of things to see, a lot of smiling people, and a lot of food to eat.
For this kind of event, the food stalls that you can see during matsuri were out on the shrine grounds.
The great thing about Washinomiya is how the pop culture of Otaku, and anime mix so greatly with the traditional one. So while this specific shrine had otaku stuff going on, the shrine is still a very traditional place, and traditional rituals were performed.
(BTW, my normal lens broke, so I was using a zoom lens for all those shots, that's why some of them seem like they should have been taken wider, but I couldn't sorry.)
After lining up to the shrine, and doing our prayers for the new year, we got to draw our Omikuji, a paper that tells you how your luck will be in the next year. By mistake, the box I picked from was for love Omikuji, but I decided to go with it, and apparently I'll have great luck in love. That's just perfect!
After that we bought an Ema, a piece of wood used to write our wishes on, and attached it with the others.
Once again, this is Washinomiya, so the display of Ema didn't disappoint, with even the author of Lucky Star, Kagami Yoshimizu, leaving his own.

After that we ate some more and went back home. It was a relatively short time, but it was really fun, I really enjoyed Hatsumode in Japan. And I suggest that if you're in japan around new year, you should totally try it too.

Comiket 87 Report!
Comiket 87 was held during the last 3 days, It was my second winter comiket, and once again I can say, Winter comiket is a lot more enjoyable than Summer comiket.
The weather was pretty nice, we did get a little rain on day 2, but not much, and it wasn't too cold (for me anyway). It was cold enough that some cosplayer seems to be really cold, but then again, being almost naked at between 0°C and 10°C would do that.
I didn't have much money this time around so I didn't buy much but I got a circle ticket again for Day 1, so I did most of my shopping in the corporate booths then.
Unfortunately, Kadokawa's line was pretty long, even before opening, so even with the circle ticket, I couldn't go to many booths.
First day shopping took a while, and I was supposed to meet with one of my friend, but because it took her too much time to get changed we could't meet during that day.
Took some cosplay pictures and went back to work D:
During day 2 I didn't have much things to buy, and I went with a Japanese friend, we spent most of the day getting cosplay pictures, and my best Comiket moment happened during day 2, when I got this awesome picture of me doing a princess carry to Misaka Imouto.
I went to Day 3 with a different friend, and I had 2 books to buy, but the line were so long that they left, and we were never able to find each others again, until closing time. We then went to eat dinner together.
Because I spent so much time lining up for stuff on day 3, and because cosplay area close earlier on day 3, I couldn't get many pictures =/

Overall this comiket was very enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Christmas in Japan
Sucks.
...
This year was my first Christmas in Japan as someone who lives here.
2 years ago I was just arriving, and I was clearly just a tourist, and last year I went back to Canada.
So I had apprehension to the arrival of this Christmas.
While in Canada Christmas is mostly about Family, here it's about couples.
Being single, that wasn't really a nice sounding event.
But even as I was already not looking forward to it, I was underestimating another important fact.
Christmas is also not an holiday officially here, so there's no day off for it. And to top it up, right now at work we're doing overtime like crazy. So I spent the 24 and 25 pretty much in front of my computer working.
When I got home, since I was alone, I celebrated Christmas with Shinobu the best I could.
