What hapenned lately part 1/2

This post is gonna be a summary of everything that happened to me since my last Japan related post (february 12). A lot of little things happened, but nothing big, so I didn't want to post about it, but it's been so long, so I should at least put everyone up to date... Thanks to Justin and SuperSugoi who helped me raise my motivation enough to write this...

most of what you will read here was previously written, or hinted at on my G+.

Valentine's day

Valentine's day in japan is not like in Canada. Girls give chocolate to guys, and it doesn't actually mean it's love, it can also be "giri choco" which is the chocolate given to pretty much every guy a girl have to interact with, as to not let them be disappointed. It's a very Japanese thing, and has it's good points and bad points... Anyway, I received a chocolate from a really cute girl. It was an obligatory chocolate, but it was still fun. Other than that, It didn't really feel like it was valentine's day so there's nothing more to say about it.

Cinema in Japan

I went to see the To Aru Majutsu No Index movie at the cinema with 2 friends from work. We wanted to go on the first week-end but it was full (and we didn't buy out tickets in advance) so we went to the Karaoke instead.

 

We went again the next week-end and reserved tickets in advance this time.
The movie was good. Even if I didn't understand everything. They pretty much used all characters, I was really happy to see the Misaka Imoutos. But unfortunately I couldn't spot Misaka 10032. Unless the movie happens before she gets her googles stolen.

The seats are actually bigger and have more leg space than Canadian's cinemas. That surprised me. The screen was small though. Beside that (and the language of course) the only difference with a Canadian cinema was that after the movie, when the credit started... nobody moved. EVERYONE watched the credits until the very end... wtf

Before the movie they gave us a copy of one of the To Aru novel (I think it was the one for the movie but I can't read it and confirm). Later I've seen copies of this novel in re-seller shops for like 3000yen, so it'S worth more than the actual cinema ticket.

Office moving

The company where I work moved it's office from Shibuya to Shimokitazawa. Before leaving the old office I took some pictures from the roof of the building, you can see them here: OldOfficeRoof
Personally I like the old office better... but the new one is cheaper.

Nakano broadway again

Well it's an Otaku hotspot so of course I'd go again. I went with one of my friend from work, and I just showed him around. nothing especially new excepted we counted the number of Mandarake inside the building... I lost count after 14.

Lawson and their lottery

The convenience store chain Lawson has a lot of Anime themed lotteries. The one close to my house has one about To Aru, so I tried it a couple of times. Got 2 figure and this nice cell phone strap:

If I had more money I would have bought a whole bunch more =/

2010

Thinking back on 2010, Lately it's been sucky, but when I think about it it really wasn't that bad of a year...
I've had the greatest experience of my life, going to Japan, enjoying the summer comiket, Akihabara, Maid Café. I've also had good time with Elisa, even if it did not last long. Anime north was great, G-anime sucked but oh well, what do you expect...

This year was bad on the love side, I mean I did have good time with Elisa, but it was at the start of the year, since then everything went bad...
It was mainly a bad political year in the land of the Quebec's Anime community. Lot's of hypocrisy, lots of lie, lots of useless and baseless little wars... I just don't give a shit about that anymore.

Made good friends, and good enemy...
Lots of good music got released, lots of crappy games too.
Lot's of awesome Anime, and the best Anime movie of all time.
I guess I'm complaining for nothing,
Let's all hope for an even better 2011! (Japan again I hope :D)

Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.
The last movie from Kyoto animation, in the Haruhi Suzumiya series. It got out in Japanese cinemas February 6th 2010. Mazui subbed it a couple of days ago so I was finally able to check it out.

I'm a big fan of Haruhi, I've bought every Novel out in English so far, bought the special edition of the first season's DVD.
Then Season 2 come out, Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody was awesome and really got my hopes up... but then... there was... Endless 8... 8 time the same episode, slightly changing angles and clothes... over and over again... I understand the principle of it, it's time recursion it have to feel like a long time, and it had to feel boring so we felt what Yuki felt... but 8 time is just way too much. The idea would have been great if it would have been 3 or 4 episodes at most. Maybe they wanted 8 episodes because a 8 sideways if the infinity sign...
Anyway, Haruhi franchise took a big drop after this, the remaining episodes of the season 2 were good but not good enough to excuse the endless 8 fiasco.

However, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, is so awesome, that if put back the Haruhi franchise even above what it was after season 1.
The acting of the Seiyu is perfect, the animations are simply wonderful. Unfortunately, the version I saw had a pretty bad image quality since it came from a Camera rip, but, even having to deal with the eye cancer it can cause, it really worth it to see an animation of that quality. The story by Nagaru Tanigawa is so deep and complex, leaving you with that "wtf" feeling that a good show gives you, while giving you enough answer to actually not become a "we're just fucked up" show. Without going into too much details, the plot surprised me, which has become a very rare thing from any movie or series. It was excellent and the development of the characters was also done masterfully.
I haven't read that part of the novel yet since it is not out in English as of the time of this posting, however I've read on a forum that some parts of the story that would have been needed were excluded from the movie. I felt the movie was complete in itself, even if it left some unanswered questions, but there is still 6 more books to cover after that so it's only normal that a lot of questions are unanswered.

It's a must see for any Anime fan, and a 'you will die if you don't see it' for any Haruhi fan.
10/10.

Inglorious Bastards

I came back from seeing this movie tonight.
You may have seen the trailer or the movie... Tarantino with Brad Pitt.

I think it was a pretty good movie. A classic Tarantino movie, with lots of blood and free violence. Well done free violence.
The acting of everyone in the movie was wonderful. Especially Christoph Waltz who did a wonderful job as Landa.
The music was nice even if some of them we're recycled from Kill Bill.
The ending is ... EPIC...

By the way, don't go see that movie if you don't like violence and blood.

X-Men les origines: Wolverine

ATTENTION SPOILERS

Je suis allé voir le film de Wolverine hier. Malgré que je n'avais pas lu the Origins avant, donc je ne pourrais pas juger a quelle point le film étais fidèle a la BD, mais, je connais quand même asser les X-Men pour donner une bonne opinion générale!

Le film étais tout plein d'action! Des combats violents, bien filmé, rapide, a coupé le soufle. Des explosions de touts bords, tous cotés, et bien sure, plein de chose qui se font couper par des griffes!

Hugh Jackman Joue a nouveau merveilleusement bien Wolverine, que vous l'aimiez ou non, il est Wolverine.
La plupart des acteurs en fait font tous tres bien leur job, bon Cast.
Gambit étais a la hauteur de ce que je m'attendais, bien qu'on ne le voit pas énormément.

Aviez vous entendu parlé des différentes fins? et bien différentes fins n'est pas vraiment le mot... après les crédit ya 2 petit bonus différent (so far) que vous auriez pu voir. Les voici: MEGA SPOILER BTW

Dragon Ball Evolution

Bon faut ben que j'en parle... apres lavoir attendu si longtemp... apres avoir eu si peur a cause des anonces.
Le film est quand meme pas si pire! C'est sur que faut aublier skon connais de dragon ball. Les niveau de puissance fit pas (meme juste dans le film sans conaitre dragonball). Les personages se ressemblent pas psychologiquement, a part Roshi... Chichi est pas asser hystérique, Bulma est trop ... sharpshopoter... courageuse... Yamcha est trop pissou et weak, Kriling existe pas (WTF KALISS) Goku est trop américain, *SPOILER*Gohan est trop vivant*/SPOILER*... Picolo est pas asser fort (mais James Masters le joue bien).

Mais le film... a part sa, est pas si mauvais... a part que le conbat de la fin est pas asser long... *SPOILER*Oui le kamehameha donne des frisson a voir, mais wtf un kamehameha... en sautant... vers picolo.... PI C TOUT?*/SPOILER*
